Millions of Americans apparently. By 2015 the new home trend is for builders to completely remove the formal Living Room and Formal Dining Room from all newly constructed homes. As the trend grows for smaller more efficient homes something has to shrink and apparently the American tract home consumer says let go of the Formal areas. Great Room plans became popular in the 90's as kitchen walls came down opening them to the TV/Family Rooms for a larger area of entertaining. Not that I'm for wasted space but this designer isn't 100% for the new downsized trend. While this daily lifestyle may be ideal for a quiet empty-nester my idea of sitting in a room filled with kitchen smells and the competitiveness of a TV blaring versus the wife and three kids run the dishwasher, faucet, microwave, garbage disposal and blender doesn't sound so restful.
